Amenities

Amenities in and around the village include:

  • The 100 year old  Reading Room is a central part of the village and is used for a range of events, such as public and private parties and meetings and other village events.

  • The allotments

  • A wide variety of woodland and field walks

  • a Nature wetland reserve

  • A children’s playground

  • A number of attractive stone buildings dating back to the 13th and 15 century many of which are listed buildings of historic note.

  • Torpel Manor Field.  This, is both a County Wildlife Site (rare Neutral Grassland) and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. This is owned and managed by the Langdyke Countryside Trust.  The grassy meadow hides a rich history from Roman times, to a Norman castle, then a medieval manor and settlement with royal connections. The story of Torpel has recently been brought to light via a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) project.  There is full public access, and a visitor centre housing the site interpretations, with parking, catering and toilet facilities suitable for schools (all Key Stages) and any other age-group visitors.

  • Within the village we have a regular bus service that runs every hour, six days a week.  Please use this link to the Delaine Bus Timetable.

  • The Nene & Welland CallConnect service is a `dial a bus` service, available to all, operating in the Oundle, Stamford, Peterborough and Thrapston area.  Ashton and Bainton are served by the Stamford service.  Please see their website for more details.

  • Cross Keys Homes are Peterborough’s largest social housing landlord, managing over 11,000 properties and housing around 14% of the city’s population. They provide homes through social housing, shared ownership, private rent and leasehold.

  • Morton Fish & Chip Van has been established for over 30 years serving traditional fish & chips to most of the surrounding villages.  Tallington Road, Bainton opposite the post box between 6:45 pm and 6:50 pm on Tuesday evenings.  (Barnack The Square 6:10pm, Barnack Uffington Road 6:30pm, West Road, Tallington 7 pm).  Please see https://www.facebook.com/mortonchipvan/.
