Parish Councillor Vacancy

Notice is hereby given of one vacancy among the members of Bainton & Ashton Parish
Council following the resignation of Councillor Helen Watts and the Council invites anyone
eligible to apply for co-option.
Co-option will take place at the next Parish Council meeting, which begins at 7.30pm on
Tuesday 4th April 2017. If there is more than one applicant, each will be invited to address
Councillors prior to the meeting and given an opportunity to explain why they would be
Anyone wishing to be considered for co-option should apply to the clerk as soon as possible
and no later than midnight on Monday 3rd April 2017.
To qualify, applicants must:
1. Be a Commonwealth citizen (which includes a British subject) or a European Union citizen,
2. Be over 18 years of age on 4th April 2017, AND
a. Be and remain on the register of electors for the Parish, OR
b. During the whole of twelve months preceding co-option, have:
i. Lived in, or within three miles of, the Parish, OR
ii. Occupied as owner or tenant, land or premises in or within three miles of the
Parish, OR
iii. Their principal or only place of work in or within three miles of the Parish.
Disqualifications: A person may not take office as a member of the Council if:
1. They are an employee of the Council.
2. They are an undischarged bankrupt.
3. During the five years before 4th April 2017 they have been convicted in the United Kingdom
of any offence and have been sentenced to not less than three months imprisonment without
the option of a fine.
